Harbourfront – Spiegeltent ‘n’ Tavern

When you go to the Spiegeltent ‘n’ Tavern, it’s hard to believe you are in staid old Toronto. The raunchy show was so successful at Luminato that it’s been held over, and for good reason. All inhibitions crash to the ground as pasties twirl furiously in the air.

Spiegeltents were put up on the outskirts of towns to avoid censors. The beautiful one at Harbourfront, built in 1926, is on loan from a family in Belgium. It is a palais de glace that houses the raunchiest show ever. Part circus, part burlesque, part music, part specialty acts, the Spiegeltent is tawdry, spicey and naughty.

Producer Tina Rasmussen has put together her sexy bump ‘n’ grind show using local performers and the crowd has clearly come to have a real good time. Master of Ceremonies Brad Hampton sets the low tone and the show spirals downward from there. It is delicious fun.

Spiegeltent ‘n’ Tavern continues until Jul. 1.
