Writer/director/actor Massimo Pagliaroli’s new play Inch of Your Life is episodic theatre, meaning, there will be new instalments coming on a regular basis, although each playlet can stand on its own. I caught up with Episode One, and I’m certainly looking forward to Episode Two.

At the heart of the serial are the Catelli brothers – a small time hood, an alcoholic gambler and an advertising guy who just lost his job. The other six mostly Italian characters are their friends and lovers. Given Pagliaroli’s roots in Second City, Inch of Your Life resembles an improv skit. The dialogue is sharp, the acting is terrific, and the relationships capture the zeitgeist of our times.

Pagliaroli has come up with a great idea and he’s got a flare for sitcom. I hope, however, the characters will grow in depth but still be engaging satire.

Inch of Your Life (Episode Two) runs at The Bread and Circus, Jun. 11 to 27.
