Apparently the little 4-person musical Edges by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul is the darling of the US college circuit. Edges is a collection of songs, rather than a book musical, geared to the twentysomething i-generation. There is actually a song about Facebook.
The repeated refrain that acts as the throughline is about being afraid to grow up and finding out who one really is. The younger members of the crowd loved the show and thought it was talking absolutely to them. The lyrics are certainly very clever and the soft rock music easy listening, but I felt a little out of sync with the sentiments.
The cast includes Jordan Bell, Eric Craig, Gabi Epstein and Sara Farb, and all are committed performers, although their sound could be jacked higher when the musicians get louder.
Needless to say, the Revival bar is the perfect venue. It’s where the twentysomethings congregate.
Edges continues at the Revival until Dec. 8.
