Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur presents dance and music. In terms of dance, FASS brings in companies that are not appearing anywhere else in Canada which makes the festival a must see excursion. An added bonus is the beautiful Laurentide region of Quebec.

Compañia Nacional de Danza 2 is the famous younger sister of the revered Madrid-based ensemble. The dancers being prepared for greater glory are between 18 and 22, but perform as exquisitely as the main company.

This trip to FASS is a swan song for artistic director Nacho Duato and assistant artistic director Tony Fabre. Both are leaving the company at season’s end after 20 years and 10 years respectively. Their choreography made up the program.

It was a most satisfying evening of contemporary dance because it was challenging. It’s going to be hard to imagine Spain’s national company without these much acclaimed choreographers.

Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur continues at the Grand Chapiteau until Aug. 7.
