Mirvish productions is presenting Noël Coward’s Private Lives, and, happily, there is a talented cast that can pull off the sophisticated and witty 1930s repartee.

The big draw is Kim Cattrall as Amanda, given her wide exposure on the many seasons of Sex and the City. She is, in fact, a very good actress, and her vigorous and amusing performance proves she belongs in classic theatre.

Her Elyot is Paul Gross who is handsome and passionate. In fact, he is an unusual Elyot because he wears his heart on his sleeve. He gives a very animated performance, but still manages the wry wit.

The supporting cast is excellent. Anna Madeley’s Sybil is perfect as the irritating soubrette, while Simon Paisley-Day is the quintessential upper class, dry bones Victor.

Director Richard Eyre has provided meticulously detailed and choreographed action and words. Rob Howell’s sets are bizarre, but his costumes are gorgeous.

The enjoyable Private Lives continues at the Royal Alexandra Theatre until Oct. 30.
