3. Felix Mendelssohn – Fingal’s Cave is named after a cave found in Northern Scotland. This beautiful cave was made famous for it’s ethereal balsam salt columns.
2. Ralph Vaughan Williams – The Lark Ascending is a beautiful and very popular piece. In medieval times, the Lark was said to sing hymns at the gates of heaven. They are also widely thought to symbolize lovers and the coming of day.
1. Bedrich Smetana – Ma Vlast: The Moldau is a fantastic suite of music Smetana wrote in honour of his home country of Prague. In this piece, Smetana uses tone painting to evoke the sounds of one of Bohemia’s great rivers, the Moldau (or Vltava) river.
