This Week on Sunday Night at the Opera: Songs of the Auvergne

This Sunday July 31st join Alexa Patrenko for an evening of Songs of the Auvergne.

It wouldn’t be summer without an idyllic getaway to France’s Auvergne region, with its verdant pastures, lakes and streams, surrounded by volcanic mountains and forested hillsides…

Joseph Canteloube’s arrangements of local folksongs, his Chants d’Auvergne, capture the landscape in lush orchestral colour, and soprano Karina Gauvin joins Raffi Armenian and the Canadian Chamber Orchestra to weave a lyrical spell,  where simple peasant songs rise to the level of purest art.
