This Sunday August 21st join Alexa Patrenko for an evening of Janet Baker.
One of the greatest singers of the 20th century, mezzo soprano Janet Baker, was born on Aug 21, 1933 in South Yorkshire, England. To celebrate her birthday, we’ll hear her superb recording of Elgar’s Sea Pictures with John Barbirolli and the LSO, as well Brahms’ not heard often enough Alto Rhapsody with the John Alldis Choir and Adrian Boult. To top it off, her Che Faro from Gluck’s Orfeo, one of her first opera roles, and her final one, when she had the good sense to retire at 50 when she was still at the top of her game.
