Beautiful Joe And His Inspiring Story Have Brought  Awareness To Animal Cruelty Around The World featured image


He was brown, part bull terrier and his ears and tail cut off. People in Meaford stared and called him ugly. That poor dog had been cruelly abused since he was a puppy. Walter Moore rescued him and his daughter Louise lovingly named him Beautiful Joe Louise’s Sister in Law was Author Margaret Marshal Saunder and she became so touched by Joe’s story that she wrote the book “Beautiful Joe”. Today Beautiful Joe Park is an 8 acre parkland on the banks of Meaford’s Big Head River. A bronze sculpture of Joe greets visitors daily. The gardens and grounds are lovingly cared for and maintained by volunteers. Beautiful Joe and his inspiring story have brought awareness to animal cruelty around the world.
