Events For Life is the vision of the programs founder Shelley Higginson. Her hope was to enrich the lives of young adults with developmental disabilities providing social, recreational and educational day programs. After several years of growing the program with dedicated parents and volunteers they have moved from her farm to a local Church and now to their new magical space. September 2017, the Events For Life Centre opened its new permanent home on a 100 acre Thornbury hobby farm that was generously donated by Michael and Alisha Hutchings. Participants of the program are able to now enjoy new programs, farm animals, hiking, canoeing, craft making to music. They also enjoy making their muffins for their weekly “coffee nook” on Wednesdays 10am – 11am at Grace United Church in Thornbury. Parents and volunteers are continuing to help nurture the participants unique skills, creativity and abilities. This is helping to shape the lives of both participants and their families while empowering these young adults to achieve their unique goals “one step at a time”.
