Those of us who love art for its own sake are generally not privy to the intrigue that goes on behind the scenes in the art world, particularly when large sums of money are involved, or – as in this case – when there is also the possibility of making one’s town a place of pilgrimage, and thus a draw for the tourist dollar.
Whenever I come across a story such as this I can’t stop myself from thinking what a wonderful plot for a movie it would make.
