I have long been fascinated by the history of the great art that was purloined (in the most disgusting manner) by the Nazis during their time in power, and I continue to be amazed that no one has thought to make a film with that story as its subject; or even better, a first rate television series.
That this vast collection has finally been unearthed (or perhaps ‘unpantried’ would better describe it) is miraculous. On the one hand, it’s a pity that its provenance is tainted with so much cruelty and human misery, but perhaps that will help to remind us to beware of ever repeating such horrors.
