The Sower

Extraordinary that a man so troubled, so conflicted, was so strong and sure when it came to making his art. Bold, contrasting colours; strong diagonals and horizontals; a brushstroke that never hesitates; a rhythmic figure that will stand as the classic ‘sower’ for all time; and a big, bold sun smack in the middle of the upper canvas, beginning to drop low in the sky.
