Anti Noise Pollution League, Quiet Dining Recommendations
I am so glad that you are profiling this issue. I have been talking about this for at least 15 yrs. A couple of years ago I dialogued, via e-mail, with Gina Mallet on this issue, suggesting that she always comment on noise levels in restaurants. I also suggested that she have a noise rating. Until quite recently, she was commenting, pretty regularly, on the noise levels. I throw this out as an idea for you – to suggest to restaurant critics that they always comment on noise levels & perhaps use a numerical rating. I have to start with the worst experience ever. We & another couple went to One shortly after the Hazelton Hotel opened & without a doubt is the noisiest restaurant any one of us had been to anywhere in the world. despite sitting at a small table, we could not hear each other, even when yelling. None of us have ever returned to see if they attempted to change this ridiculous situation. Now for some more positive recommendations. #1 in Ontario would be Langdon Hall – it’s probably a factor of the size of the room, but it’s perfect – you can even whisper & be heard! In Toronto – C5, Bodega, George’s, The Pink Pearl at Harbourfront, Sushi Kaji and Victor’s. Thanks again for your efforts on behalf of us all!
