Sodium

Health2007-12-17By: Libby Znaimer

Are you getting too much sodium? Even if you’re only using a pinch in your cooking and a dash on your meal, it can quickly add up to unhealthy levels. That’s  because prepared and processed foods and condiments like soy sauce already contain more than enough sodium.  Taste alone won’t tell you. For instance a 4 inch bagel that doesn’t taste salty has more than 450mg. The recommended daily intake is between 1500 and 2500 milligrams. Aim for the low end by eating more fresh foods and flavouring them with things like fresh herbs. The good news is the taste for salt is acquired, so it can be reversed.
