If you want to slim down, here’s an interesting new diet. Dr. Melissa Hershberg says the key is eating foods that are high in water content and The Hershberg Diet teaches people to recognize these foods. For example, a cup of grapes has only about 100 calories, take out the water, and that cup of raisins has 500 calories. She says lean protein, like a juicy steak is also what she calls a wet food. Eating these foods makes it easier to cut calories.
“Absolutely, you need to lessen your caloric intake if you want to lose weight, and the easiest way to do that is by eating these high-water foods because at least you feel full, and that’s what people that see me at my practice to lose weight say, they say: this is so do-able, because I’m not starving, I’m not eating little tiny bird-portions.”
Dr. Hershberg says not all calories are equal.
“A calorie of protein and a calorie of carbs are not going to end up as the same calorie in your body. You’re actually going to take in fewer calories with the protein because your body has to do so much work to break it down.”
