Have you ever considered that the place you live can have an impact on your health? Best Health Magazine has ranked 20 Canadian cities according to how healthy they are.
Overall cities in the west did better than cities in the east, except when it comes to stress levels. And just as the rich get richer – the fit get fitter – Vancouver improved its numbers which were already the best in the nation. As for Toronto, we were all over the map in the five categories. We ranked second – just behind Vancouver – for lowest rates of heaviness and obesity. Interestingly, the country’s 3 largest cities are the slimmest. On the other hand, Toronto ranked 19th for leisure time spent in active pursuits – just ahead of Moncton, NB and behind Summerside, PEI. Toronto was in the middle of the pack for consumption of fruits and vegetables, lowest stress levels, and healthiest blood pressure levels.
The bottom line, despite the hectic pace of a big city: we’re all responsible for our own health – and we should remind ourselves to taike the time to develop and stick to a healthy lifestyle.
