Do you worry about too much salt in your diet? Most of us do. Do you check the amount of sodium listed on the label before you buy something? Apparently, almost half of us do. But according to an Ipsos Reid survey, most of us don’t understand the information on nutrition labels and don’t know the recommended limit on daily salt consumption. So here are some tips from nutritionist Leslie Beck.
Our bodies actually only need 1200-1500 milligrams of salt and most Canadian consume double that amount. The vast majority comes for prepared foods and restaurant meals. It adds up quickly. So check the line that says % daily value – that’ll tell how much of the daily limit you’ll get from one serving of the food you’re looking at.
