Daily Sunscreen Delays Wrinkles

Here’s the latest on how to delay or even prevent the development of wrinkles and sagging skin. It’s from a scientific study and doesn’t involve anything invasive or expensive. The study in The Annals of Internal Medicine found using sunscreen all the time showed results.

The research involved 900 white people aged 25 to 55 in Australia, where the sun is intense. Most had fair skin, and were using sunscreen at least some of the time.

Half of the study participants were told to continue their usual practices, and the other half to slather on sunscreen daily for four and half years.

The researchers used silicone casts at the beginning and end of the study to measure the results and they found those assigned to use sunscreen every day had noticeably more resilient and smoother skin. Unfortunately, the study did not determine whether people older than 55 would also have more youthful skin if they used sunscreen daily, or how much sunscreen will help if you start using it later in life. But since doctors already advise using it to protect against skin cancer, it’s certainly worth a try.
