Apple a Day

Health2016-3-7By: Libby Znaimer

We’ve all heard the old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. But now the fruit is being touted for an even sexier benefit. According to a study in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, it can also boost a woman’s love life.

The research on more than 700 women found regular daily apple consumption can boost sexual pleasure in healthy women.

The scientists believe the reason for this may be the compound phloridzin found in apples. It is similar to the female sex hormone estradiol, which plays a large role in arousal.

Apples, like wine and chocolate, also contain polyphenols and antioxidants that can stimulate blood flow which also promotes arousal.

Researchers at Santa Chiara Regional Hospital in Trento, Italy believe the more apples women consume, the higher the level of sexual function.

Of course, Apples have many other health benefits. In 2012, scientists found the fruit significantly lowered blood fat levels in postmenopausal women, the group most at risk of heart attacks and strokes.

And eating the fruit every day for six months cut cholesterol by almost a quarter.
