The wonderful Josh Groban joined us in studio this week while promoting his new recording ‘Illuminations‘ in Toronto – a recording with a new producer, Rick Rubin. Josh talked about working with Rick versus David Foster and how the recording of the new album differs from previous records. The new album has a very different sound, orchestration and gorgeous arrangements – a wonderful marriage of folk and classical.
Josh also touched on his influences growing up, a mix of contemporary and classical, from Neil Young to Beethoven to Philip Glass, a cross-genre musical upbringing that he has his parents to thank for.
He also spoke on writing songs in different languages – a challenge that he loves and finds adds a whole new colour to his work. Lastly, we couldn’t talk to Josh without inquiring about the wonderful spoof he did recently on Jimmy Kimmel singing Kanye West’s tweets – the ultimate cross-over!
