Look up ‘Juno Awards‘ on Google and you’ll see Bieber-this and Drake-that…but where’s the love for Classical? More than half of the JUNO nominees in the Classical categories have performed in our Concert Lobby, so we thought we’d spread the love with videos from those performances:
CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: LARGE ENSEMBLE OR SOLOIST(S) WITH LARGE ENSEMBLE ACCOMPANIMENT
(Awarded since 1985. The first winner? Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit with the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal for Ravel: Ma Mere L’oye/Pavane Pour un Infante Debunte/Tombeau de Couperin And Valses Nobles et Sentimentales)
CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: VOCAL OR CHORAL PERFORMANCE (Awarded since 1994. The first winner? Claudette Leblanc (soprano) and Valerie Tryon (piano) for Debussy Songs)
Although they’re not nominated this year, we have to give major kudos to Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, who have been nominated a whopping 37 times, with 9 wins! Here’s their performance in the Concert Lobby:
Good luck to all nominees! Tune in for the awards this Sunday on CTV.
