The National Arts Centre in Ottawa has recently acquired one of Glenn Gould’s most prized pianos. The legendary Steinway CD 318 that had consumed Gould for the last two decades of his life will find itself in in good company next to the NAC’s Oscar Peterson Sculpture.
“He was constantly searching for the perfect piano and instantly fell in love with it,” said NAC Archivist Gerry Grace. “Steinway CD 318 was possibly the most important piano in Glenn Gould’s career. He recorded and performed extensively on it.” Both will be on permanent display at the NAC starting on Friday June 22, 2012.
