Classical Guitarist Wins National Music Prize

Twenty-four-year-old classical guitarist Steve Cowan is the first musician from Newfoundland and Labrador to win the Grand Prize at the National Music Festival.

Cowan was awarded the $6,500 prize on August 18th at this year’s competition in Fort McMurray, AB.

Cowan discussed his performance with the CBC “I just tried to think of it as a really good performance opportunity alongside some phenomenal musicians from across Canada, and I really did just have fun up there”

He also won the guitar category of the music festival.
