I’m sure our movie reviewer Marc Glassman will be talking about the relative merits of StreetDance 3D which opens this Friday. I got to see the movie and would like to put in my two cents, as it were.

It’s the first dance film shot in 3D, and there is something to be said for dance in 3D. The process makes the audience part of the choreography. We literally feel inside the dance.

3D, in fact, could revolutionize how dance is filmed in the future, and the possibilities are absolutely tantalizing. With digital capabilities rather than an expensive 3D camera, 3D filming is much more affordable, so expect more to come.

On the other hand, the enjoyment level depends on the type of dance on view. If MTV is your thing, you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven with StreetDance 3D, which is, essentially, one long music video where b-boys meet bunheads as the worlds of hip hop and ballet collide.
