REPORT SPELLS OUT POSSIBLE END TO HOMELESSNESS

ZoomerNews2016-10-20By: Classical Staff

While it’s still at crisis levels in Canada, a just released report says progress is being made through strategy and spending.

Advocates say for the first time in more than two decades they have some hope the country’s on the right track to end homelessness.

A report from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness and the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness says by spending nearly $44-billion on affordable housing the next decade, governments could effectively end a problem that costs the economy over $7-billion each year.

The report blames the current crisis on shrinking federal investment in housing that started in the 1980s and has not change since but says the federal government’s national housing strategy signals a chance to ensure there’s affordable housing for all Canadians.
