The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra has a new conductor.
24 year Brit Alexander Prior has been signed to a five-year contract starting with the 2017-18 season.
Prior conducted the Edmonton orchestra during several guest appearances over the past two years and comes highly qualified despite his age.
At 13, Prior’s ballet “Mowgli”, commissioned by the Moscow State Ballet, received international critical acclaim and at the age of 17, he was the youngest student since Sergei Prokofiev to graduate with distinction as a conductor from the Conservatoire in St. Petersburg.
