FALLEN SOLDIERS SHOULD BE HONOURED WELL PAST REMEMBRANCE DAY SAYS NEW SURVEY

ZoomerNews2016-11-3By: Classical Staff

Canadians would like fallen soldiers to be honoured – well beyond Remembrance Day.

That’s according to a study commissioned by Historica Canada – which heard a large majority of respondents saying – they would like to see a national monument to soldiers who died in combat in modern times.

About 76 per cent said they’d like to see a memorial – similar to America’s Vietnam Wall – which lists the names of those who’ve died – while serving in their country’s military.

And 86 per cent of those surveyed felt that creating some sort of national monument should be part of Canada’s upcoming 150th birthday celebrations.

Respondents also emphasized the need for ongoing education about Canada’s military accomplishments – with 62 per cent saying students aren’t learning enough about the country’s war-time efforts.
