Canadians pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in times of war so that we may remain free. Ceremonies will take place across the country, many with a moment of silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the moment the guns fell silent in 1918 to mark the end of the First World War.

In Toronto…..

8 a.m. sunrise ceremony at The Cross of Sacrifice, Prospect Cemetery, 1450 St. Clair Ave. W.

10:15 a.m. at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Cenotaph, 399 The West Mall

10:45 a.m. in front of the Old City Hall Cenotaph at Bay and Queen

10:45 a.m. at the East York Centre Memorial Gardens, 850 Coxwell Avenue

10:45 a.m. at the George Weston Recital Hall, Toronto Centre for the Arts, 5040 Yonge Street

10:45 a.m. at the York Civic Centre in the York Memorial Collegiate Auditorium, 2690 Eglinton Ave. W.

10:45 a.m. at the Fort York Historic Site, 250 Fort York Blvd.

At Queen’s Park, the Canadian Armed Forces will commemorate Remembrance Day on the south lawn with a bugler playing Last Post, a piper playing The Lament and a 21-gun salute after the traditional moment of silence at 11 a.m

2 p.m. at the Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.

Along Yonge Street kilted pipers will play The Lament at the intersections of Richmond, Shuter, Dundas, Gould, Elm, Gerrard, College, Wood and Grosvenor Streets .

.In the GTA:

Ajax – 10:45 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 111 Hunt Street

Pickering – 10:45 a.m. at the Pickering City Hall Cenotaph, 1 The Esplanade.

Whitby – 10:45 a.m. at the Whitby Cenotaph, 111 Dundas Street, East

Mississauga – 10:45 a.m. at the Civic Centre Community Memorial, 300 City Centre Drive

Markham – 10:45 a.m. at the Flato Markham Theatre for Performing Arts, 171 Town Centre Blvd.

Banks, provincial and federal offices as well as Toronto City Hall and post offices are closed.

Schools, tourist attractions, malls and grocery stores remain open. The LCBO and Beer Store will open at noon and the TTC will pause operations for two minutes at 11 a.m.
