Records are expected to be set tonight when the 1926 oil canvas, “Mountain Forms” by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris, goes on the auction block.
Heffel Fine Art Auction House in Toronto estimates the painting could fetch between $3 and $5 million – including the buyer’s premium. The current record for a Harris work is held by “Mountain and Glacier”, which last sold for $4.6-million.
The Canadian art record was set in 2002 when Paul Kane’s 1845 oil canvas “Scene in the Northwest – Portrait” sold for just over $5 million.
