OTTAWA APPROVES 2 PIPELINES, REJECTS THIRD

ZoomerNews2016-11-29By: Classical Staff

The Trudeau cabinet’s given the green light to Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline and Enbridge’s Line 3, while saying no to Northern Gateway.

Before revealing the government’s decision Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlined the criteria.

”We said that major pipelines could only get built if we had a price on carbon, and strong environmental protection in place. We said that indigenous peoples must be respected and be a part of the process. And we said that we would only approve projects that could be built and run safely. That’s how we’ve come to today’s (Tuesday) decisions.”

With that, Trudeau revealed Ottawa had approved Enbridge’s Line 3 expansion from Alberta to Wisconsin and Kinder Morgan’s proposal to triple the capacity of its Trans Mountain pipeline from Alberta to B.C.

But the prime minister effectively killed the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline across northern B.C., saying the Great Bear Rainforest is no place for one.

Trudeau also announced the government will soon introduce legislation to make a moratorium on crude tanker shipping on B.C.’s north coast the law, something the Liberals promised during the last election.
