The Canadian government is more in favour of global trade and signing free trade amendments than ever, despite recent protectionist talk.

While not mentioning U.S. President-elect Donald Trump by name, International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland told the Toronto Region Board of Trade, she’s so proud to be representing Canada because it’s ”the country that is most clearly bucking the trend” toward protectionism and closed borders.
She adds Canada’s poised to take advantage of the current global economy.
”There’s a window open for us and we have to push really hard to get through it and pull people in.”
Freeland also gave more details of a new government agency intended to lure investment.
Ottawa will spend $218-million to fund the ‘Invest in Canada’ hub that she describes as a ”concierge service” to try to convince foreign investors that this is the ideal place to put their money to work.
