AMERICAN HERO JOHN GLENN IN HOSPITAL

ZoomerNews2016-12-8By: Classical Staff

The war hero who became the first American to orbit the Earth back in the early 60’s and later served four terms in the U.S. Senate has been hospitalized in his home state of Ohio.

95-year-old John Glenn suffered a stroke two years ago after having heart surgery, but it’s unclear if that is related to the current situation.

At age 77, Glenn was aboard the final space shuttle flight; the oldest person to ever make such a voyage. At the time he lamented the demise of the space shuttle program because it turned the job of getting people and supplies to the International Space Station over to the Russians.

In 2011 Glenn received the Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest civilian honour in the US.
