Here’s something to consider when you’re choosing a car. Is it likely to be stolen? The Highway Loss Data Institute, a group funded by the U.S. insurance industry has compiled a list of the vehicles most likely and least likely to be stolen. Sticking to the latter group can save lot of hassle and help you save on insurance.
Most likely to be stolen: the Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV is apparently the biggest target for thieves. The data show it is six times more likely to be hit by crooks than the average vehicle. The Ford F-250 and Chevrolet Silverado trucks round out the top three.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the car least likely to be stolen is the Audi A6 four-wheel drive, a luxury sedan. Also on that list:
Lexus RX 350
The study is based on insurance claims made in the U.S. for vehicles from model years 2008 through 2010.
