Happy Birthday Joseph Haydn!

Happy Birthday Joseph Haydn! featured image

Franz Joseph Haydn never had any children. Perhaps it was the combination of his lousy marriage and busy work life… he WAS fiercely industrious, and not in a quantity-over-quality kind of way!  In addition to countless  sonatas, concertos, operas  and choral works, he wrote 68 wonderful string quartets and 106 brilliant symphonies. In a sense, he did not die “fatherless” when he left this earth at age 77: With seemingly endless imagination, he filled these works with his genius for invention, his warm spirit and good humour, essentially raising them up to be the  mature vehicles that would serve Mozart, Beethoven and many more to come — and earning him the nickname “Papa Haydn.”
