Today we’re celebrating the birth of Louis Spohr. He was born on April 5th, 1785 in Braunschweig, Germany. In his day he was a prominent composer, conductor, violinist and inventor! Spohr is credited with inventing the chin rest that you can find on today’s violins. That’s not his only major classical invention – he’s also credited as being one of the first conductor’s to use a baton to lead the orchestra. Although he fell into obscurity shortly after his death, his music has enjoyed a revival over the past few decades. Some of his most popular pieces are his 4 clarinet concertos, take a listen for yourself!
