Composer of the Week: MONTEVERDI’S VESPERS OF 1610

Composer of the Week: MONTEVERDI’S VESPERS OF 1610 featured image

It was 450 years ago this month that Claudio Monteverdi came into this world. Born in 1567, he would, in his 76 years, spearhead the biggest and most enduring revolution in Western music: The shift from the Heavens to the Earth, from the Godly to the Human, from the emotionally cool to the passionate and deeply felt. If a single work were to exemplify this tectonic shift, it could very well be his “Vespers of 1610.”

Tune in to A Little Night Music at 8pm for an in-depth look at this revolutionary work, only on the New Classical FM!
