Happy Birthday Robert Schumann!

Happy Birthday Robert Schumann! featured image

ROBERT SCHUMANN (Born: June 8, 1810 – Died: July 29, 1856)
After abandoning law studies to pursue a career in music (like so many before him!), his dreams of rocking the world as a virtuoso pianist were dashed when overzealous practicing ruined his hand… Out of necessity began the career of one of the mid-19th century’s greatest composers. He enjoyed a happy marriage to Clary Schumann (nee Weick), although tensions sometimes arose due to Clara’s superior fame as a one of the most sought after concert pianists. But she was unyielding in her faith and encouragement of her brilliant husband, whose career and then life would be cut short by devastating mental illness. Like Beethoven before him and Brahms after him, Schumann left an essential legacy incredible music, including 4 rich symphonies, a towering piano concerto, string quartets, the phenomenal E-flat major Piano Quintet, and one of the most well-loved song-cycles, Dichterliebe, or “A Poet’s Love.”
