The mighty pines of Rome …
Ottorino Respighi was an Italian violinist, composer, and musicologist, whose legacy to the music world was his three orchestra tone poems, Fountains of Rome, Pines of Rome, and Roman Festivals. He based these works on 16th to 18th century music, an era that piqued the curiosity of his musicologist’s mind.
Here is the Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra performing Pines of Rome in Gallus Hall, Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana, Slovenia, with Maestro Nejc Bečan.
Ottorino Respighi was born July 9, 1879 in Bologna, Italy, and died April 18 ,1936 in Rome, Italy.
