Here’s what’s coming up on “Sunday Night at the Opera” in the words of host Alexa Petrenko:
“This week we’ll do our Christmas baking to the soundtrack of Engelbert Humperdinck’s childrens’ opera that he wrote in 1893 to a libretto by his sister, based on the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. You know the story … two poor hungry children get lost in the woods and with supernatural help, outwit the witch in the gingerbread house who lures them with cookies. Traditionally performed at the Met at Christmas, this ‘plum-puddingly’ Wagnerian orchestration enriches the simple story.”
“Sunday Night at the Opera” airs at 9 PM on The New Classical FM.
