This week on Dinner Classics, Cocktail Maestro Norm Owen introduces us to that oft-overlooked spirit known as Schnapps – the perfect ounce to warm you up in a jiffy! And he’s got some great cocktails, too…
The Brennivin Vesper
1.5 oz Brennivin (Icelandic caraway-based schnapps)
.5 oz Gin
.25 oz Lillet blanc, (better: Cocchi Americano, if you can find it!)
Stir on ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a coupe, and serve with a lemon twist.
The Jaegerita – it sounds crazy, but it’s so good!
1.5 oz Jaegermeister schnapps
.75 oz lime juice
.75 oz Cointreau
2 bars spoons of 2:1 simple syrup (2 parts sugar dissolved in 1 part water)
Shake on ice. Strain into a coupe – garnish with a lime wheel if you feel like it – and enjoy!
