Here’s what host Kathleen Kajioka has to say about how “A Little Night Music” will mark International Women’s Day:

“Tune in to hear about why it was unseemly for women to play the violin in 18th century France  – and the instrument they used as an alternative.  We’ll hear from the smattering of female composers whose voices managed to cut through the gender barrier over the centuries, including selections from Quebecoise violist Marina Thibeault’s new album called ‘Elles’. Most of all, we’ll hear from trailblazing performers in classical music – women whose fearlessness and commitment continue to break barriers, such as Sabine Meyer, Jessye Norman, Marin Alsop, and Barbara Hannigan.”

International Women’s Day is Friday, March 8. Many of the composers and performers mentioned above will be featured throughout the day Friday, and “A Little Night Music” airs weekdays at 7 PM on The New Classical FM.
