Polish Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski is no stranger to the radio station – he has performed Live at Zoomer Hall, and he will be performing at ideacity, kicking off Day 3, Friday, June 21, with a solo piano rendition of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. He also chats about his delight in Gershwin’s famous work, drawing upon his contact list putting on the festival in Collingwood, and the logistics of coordinating concerts in remote Canadian regions for Piano Six.
Listen to the interview here:
Daniel has performed throughout Europe, North America, South America and Asia in prestigious concert halls. Dedicated to giving back to the country that nurtured him as an artist, Wnukowski founded “Piano Six – New Generation” (pianist Janina Fialkowska founded the original model) to perform outreach concerts for remote communities in Canada (the biggest takeaway? Rent a huge truck, not a small car) and the Collingwood Summer Music Festival – injecting much-needed classical music into the community during the summer weeks. The music of interwar Jewish composers also occupies a special place in Mr. Wnukowski’s repertoire and this season he continues to focus on the music of Karol Rathaus, among others.
