This American soprano was playing piano and casually singing in movie houses when, in 1919, she was discovered by superstar tenor, Enrico Caruso. Her natural talent propelled her into an unexpected career at the Metropolitan Opera, where she forged career that earned her recognition one of the greatest sopranos of the last 100 years!
