This Saturday just after 6:30pm on Dinner Classics, Cocktail Maestro Norm Owen rescues the Coffee Cocktail! Most often not taken seriously by bartenders, coffee cocktails can be the perfect after dinner drink – when made well!
Here are a couple of great recipes from Norm:
The Spanish Coffee (made properly)
In a footed highball glass (or any glass you can hold when it’s hot), pour:
.75 oz high proof dark rum (e.g. Gosling’s, Lamb’s Navy proof)
.25 oz Triple sec or Cointreau
1.5 oz Kahlua
Top with hot coffee, leaving about 1cm.
Pour heavy cream (whipping or half-and-half) into a jar. Seal with the lid, then shake until the cream expands and thickens. Pour over top of your cocktail – enjoy watching the cream slowly spread over the drink… then enjoy!
The Espresso Martini
This is Norm’s favourite recipe for this popular drink:
1.5 oz vodka (or tequila!)
.5 oz Kahlua
.5 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
.5 oz half-and-half cream
1 long shot of espresso
Pour all ingredients into a shaking tin on ice, and shake until very cold. Then strain out the ice, close the tin and shake liquid again – this will make it delightfully foamy. Pour into a coupe and enjoy!
