Here’s what’s in store for opera fans tonight on “Sunday Night at the Opera” with host Alexa Petrenko:

“This week we’ll revisit the watery world of ‘Rusalka’, Dvorak’s finest opera, drawing on La Motte Fouque’s Ondine and Anderson’s The Little Mermaid. Renee Fleming is the water sprite’s daughter who wishes to become human to win the love of the Prince, Ben Heppner in this case. She goes for help to the witch Jezibaba, sung by Dolora Zajick, a force of nature herself, and the inevitable unfolds to the most glorious music.”

Consider this show an excellent primer for the Canadian Opera Company’s upcoming production of Rusalka, October 12 – 26, at the Four Seasons  Centre for the Performing Arts, starring Sondra Radvanovsky. See her touching video here.

“Sunday Night at the Opera” airs tonight at 9 pm on The New Classical FM. classicafm.ca
