Tonight’s edition of “Sunday Night at the Opera” features Turandot, which is on now at the Canadian Opera Company for another week. (Note: if you’re a fan of “Nessun dorma”, Pavarotti’s signature aria, this is your chance to hear it live.)

Here’s what host Alexa Petrenko has in store for tonight’s episode: “This week I’ll take you through Puccini’s last opera,  the fairy tale of Turandot, the ice princess.  We’ll find out why she is so cold, and what it takes to thaw her out.  Montserrat Caballe is Turandot, the queen of riddles;  Jose Carreras is Calaf, who solves them and keeps the entire city up the whole night;  and Mirella Freni has the best role of them all, that of the servant girl Liu, who actually knows what love is.”

Sunday Night at the Opera airs at 9 pm on The New Classical FM.  The COC’s Turandot continues its run until October 27 at Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts on Queen at University.
