Pianist Lang Lang’s “Piano Book” came in at #12 in the top 20 for “Classical Chartz” with host Mike Duncan.
Featured from the “Piano Book” is Mendelssohn’s wee ditty “Spinning song”, which depicts the whirring of the spinning wheel. It’s one of the few piano pieces from “Songs Without Words” for piano that Mendelssohn specifically titled. Piano pieces were increasingly popular in the early 1800’s, as more middle class families included the piano as part of the home. Today’s equivalent would be like having a virtual home assistant – not everyone has it, but a lot of people do, and counting.
“Classical Chartz” with host Mike Duncan airs Saturdays at 3 pm on The New Classical FM.
