Host Alexa Petrenko has a special treat for you in this holiday edition of “Sunday Night at the Opera”.  Here’s what she has to say:
“For me, one of the very best things about Christmas is Gian Carlo Menotti’s magical one-act opera ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’.  Commissioned by the NBC, it was first performed on Christmas Eve in 1951, in a TV studio at Rockefeller Center for a live broadcast seen by 5 million people. It was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s painting ‘The Adoration of the Magi’. The tale is of Amahl, a shepherd boy, who meets the Three Kings as they follow the star to Bethlehem.”

“Sunday Night at the Opera” is on tonight at 9 pm on The New Classical FM.
