Today in 1840 – 180 years ago – Gaetano Donizetti’s Opera “La Fille du Regiment” premiered in Paris. What this opera is most known for in recent memory is Pavarotti’s rendition of a tenor aria “Ah mes amis”. It has an astonishing 9 high C’s – the pinnacle of any tenor’s range in the upper notes. Pavarotti, in his prime, had the clearest, most penetrating high C’s, and trust me, you’ll know them when you hear them.
